Signs of the time-perplexity- Last generation

Signs of the time reveal that the coming of our Lord is near. Christ has given us many signs, most of which have been fulfilled and the others are fulfilling. Just recently it was reported that the past 12 months, June last year to June this year has been the hottest in the US on record. Signs are following signs, worst tornado season, drought, economic woes, corruption, flooding, …,perplexity, all indicates the end is near.
“The exact day and hour of His coming has not been revealed. Christ told His disciples that He Himself could not make known the day or the hour of His second appearing. But He mentioned certain events by which they might know when His coming was near.” {SJ 175.4}
There shall be signs,” He said, “in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars.” Luke 21:25. And He speaks still more plainly: “The sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven.” Matthew 24:29. {SJ 175.5}
“Upon the earth, He said, there shall be “distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth.””Luke 21:25, 26. {SJ 175.6}
We are now living in the last of these signs as listed by Jesus in Luke chapter 21. The nations are perplexed, they have no way out of the mess that the world has find itself in. All this is leading to the coming of the Son of man.
And they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds,from one end of heaven to the other.” Matthew 24:30, 31. {SJ 175.7}
The Saviour adds: “Now learn a parable of the fig tree; when his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: so likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.” Matthew 24:32, 33. {SJ 176.1}
“Christ has given signs of His coming. He says that we may know when He is near, even at the doors. When the trees put forth their leaves in the spring, we know that summer is near. Just so surely, when the signs appear in the sun and the moon and the stars, we are to know that Christ’s coming is near.” {SJ 176.2}
These signs have appeared. On May 19, 1780, the sun was darkened. That day is known in history as “the dark day.” In the eastern part of North America, so great was the darkness that in many places the people had to light candles at noonday.The darkening of the sun and the moon was a sign of His coming.” {SJ 176.3}
“November 13, 1833, there was the most wonderful display of falling stars ever beheld by men. “Again thousands believed that the day of judgment had come.” {SJ 176.4}
“Since that time earthquakes, tempests, tidal waves, pestilence, famine, and destructions by fire and flood, have multiplied. All these, and “distress of nations, with perplexity,” declare that the Lord’s coming is near.” {SJ 176.5}
Of those who beheld these signs He says, “This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.” Matthew 24:34, 35.” {SJ 176.6}
We have beheld these signs, so we know that we are living in the last generation.
““The Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18.” {SJ 177.1}
Christ is coming, coming with clouds and with great glory. A multitude of shining angels will attend Him. He will come to raise the dead, and to change the living saints from glory to glory. {SJ 177.2}
He will come to honor those who have loved Him and kept His commandments, and to take them to Himself. He has not forgotten them nor His promise.” {SJ 177.3}

Marriage Under Attack

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” {Genesis 1:26-28}

It is obvious that there is a tremendous attack against marriage right now in our country. The US is a world leader and where ever it leads, the world tends to follow. From the passage read above, God created man in His image, in His likeness, He blessed them and commanded them to be fruitful and multiply. God’s image in man is under attack, God is the creator, and He created man and woman, and has given us the ability together to procreate.

“A battle over a federal law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman appears headed for the Supreme Court after an appeals court ruled Thursday that denying benefits to married gay couples is unconstitutional. In a unanimous decision, the three-judge panel of the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston said the 1996 law deprives gay couples of the rights and privileges granted to heterosexual couples.” From Foxnews

“God celebrated the first marriage. Thus the institution has for its originator the Creator of the universe. “Marriage is honourable”; it was one of the first gifts of God to man, and it is one of the two institutions that, after the fall, Adam brought with him beyond the gates of Paradise. When the divine principles are recognized and obeyed in this relation, marriage is a blessing; it guards the purity and happiness of the race, it provides for man’s social needs, it elevates the physical, the intellectual, and the moral nature.”{AH 25.4}

“He who gave Eve to Adam as a helpmeet performed His first miracle at a marriage festival. In the festal hall where friends and kindred rejoiced together, Christ began His public ministry. Thus He sanctioned marriage, recognizing it as an institution that He Himself had established…. {AH 26.1}
Christ honored the marriage relation by making it also a symbol of the union between Him and His redeemed ones. He Himself is the Bridegroom; the bride is the church, of which, as His chosen one, He says, “Thou art all fair, My love; there is no spot in thee.”” {AH 26.2}
Marriage was instituted by Christ, it is not something instituted by man, God did not leave it up to us to decide if marriage is between a man and a woman or a man and a man. Marriage is a symbol of the relationship between Christ and His church. This would explain why the devil does not want marriage to remained sanctified. God has blessed marriage, and when it is done according to His will it elevates the human race and our society.
The time has come, the end has come, the next institution that Adam brought beyond the gates of Eden is the Sabbath, this itself is already under subtle attack, but based on prophecy this will only increase. Our society is crumbling, man is choosing his way, rather than God’s way.
Where are we heading?
When our nation, in its legislative councils, shall enact laws to bind the consciences of men in regard to their religious privileges, enforcing Sunday observance, and bringing oppressive power to bear against those who keep the seventh-day Sabbath, the law ofGod will, to all intents and purposes, be made void in our land, and national apostasy will be followed by national ruin.”—The S.D.A. Bible Commentary 7:977 (1888). {LDE 133.5}

Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot

“Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” (Luke 17:26-30)

We are as a nation moving very fast in the footsteps of Sodom and Gomorroh. “President Obama today announced that he now supports same-sex marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition amid growing pressure from the Democratic base and even his own vice president.” (yahoo.com) It is now only a matter of time before a national law is passed before giving the green light to same-sex marriage. As it was in the days of Lot, one of the chief sin was same-sex relationships, as we read here in Genesis 19:4-5. “But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.”

Another issue in the days of Lot was “…they did eat, they drank…”, gluttony was an issue then, it is an issue now. From the Huffingtonpost it reads, “Today, just over a third of U.S. adults are obese. By 2030, 42 percent will be, says a forecast released Monday.”

“According to surveys included in the PollingReport.com database, an average of 50 percent of American adults support same-sex marriage rights while 45 percent oppose it, based on an average of nine surveys conducted in the past year.”

“This is a reversal from earlier periods: support for same-sex marriage has been increasing, and opposition to it has been decreasing, at a relatively steady rate of perhaps two or three percentage points a year since 2004.” NY Times

Is there a correlation between our eating habits and our moral change in regards to same-sex marriage?

“The same sins of gluttony and drunkenness benumbed the moral sensibilities of the inhabitants of Sodom, so that crimes seemed to be the delight of the men and women of that wicked city. Christ thus warns the world: “Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” {CD 60.4}
There are other factors as well that is affecting this change in our moral behavior and acceptance, such as the media, “The mind of a man or woman does not come down in a moment from purity and holiness to depravity, corruption, and crime. It takes time to transform the human to the divine, or to degrade those formed in the image of God to the brutal or the satanic. By beholding we become changed. Though formed in the image of his Maker, man can so educate his mind that sin which he once loathed will become pleasant to him. As he ceases to watch and pray, he ceases to guard the citadel, the heart, and engages in sin and crime. The mind is debased, and it is impossible to elevate it from corruption while it is being educated to enslave the moral and intellectual powers and bring them in subjection to grosser passions. Constant war against the carnal mind must be maintained; and we must be aided by the refining influence of the grace of God, which will attract the mind upward and habituate it to meditate upon pure and holy things”.12 {AH 330.2}
Prophecies are fast fulfilling, we are here at the end, “The people of the United States have been a favored people…”—The Review and Herald, May 2, 1893. {LDE 133.4}, at this time in our history, all the signs shows us that we are heading towards national apostasy. “With rapid steps we are approaching this period. When Protestant churches shall unite with the secular power to sustain a false religion, for opposing which their ancestors endured the fiercest persecution, then will the papal sabbath be enforced by the combined authority of church and state. There will be a national apostasy, which will end only in national ruin.”—Manuscript 51, 1899. {Ev 235.1}

I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD. Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel. For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name. (Amos 4:11-13)

The Time Of Trouble

In the book of Daniel we are given a most serious message that should have the children of God ever aware, that there will come a time that we must get ready and prepared for.
“And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.” {Dan.12:1}
God always send warning before judgment, and He has provided “the way” for His children. I thank God for the “Bible” & the “Spirit of Prophecy” which is equivalent to the Law and to the testimony, that we may be equipped for every emergency! So what is this troublous time that is ahead of us? How can we be prepared? When will our bread and water be sure? Is there two distinct times of crises that affect the saints and the world? …“The wise shall understand” {Dan.12:10}
“The “time of trouble, such as never was,” is soon to open upon us; and we shall need an experience which we do not now possess and which many are too indolent to obtain. It is often the case that trouble is greater in anticipation than in reality; but this is not true of the crisis before us. The most vivid presentation cannot reach the magnitude of the ordeal. In that time of trial, every soul must stand for himself before God. “Though Noah, Daniel, and Job” were in the land, “as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.” Ezekiel 14:20. {GC 622.4}
As we see calamity and trouble rising at an alarming rate, God’s people are to be gaining a closer walk with Jesus, confessing, forsaken, and overcoming sin. We need an experience brothers and sisters. May God help us!

“I saw that many were neglecting the preparation so needful and were looking to the time of “refreshing” and the “latter rain” to fit them to stand in the day of the Lord and to live in His sight. Oh, how many I saw in the time of trouble without a shelter! They had neglected the needful preparation; therefore they could not receive the refreshing that all must have to fit them to live in the sight of a holy God.” {EW 71.2}

Did you get that? “Many were neglecting the preparation so needful” Wow!
The prophet is letting us know there is a preparation that is needful and we are not to wait for the Holy Spirit to do it for us. Let us see our part that we must play.
Not one of us will ever receive the seal of God while our characters have one spot or stain upon them. It is left with us to remedy the defects in our characters, to cleanse the soul temple of every defilement. Then the latter rain will fall upon us as the early rain fell upon the disciples on the Day of Pentecost.” {5T 214.2}
Christ is waiting with longing desire for the manifestation of Himself in His church. When the character of Christ shall be perfectly reproduced in His people, then He will come to claim them as His own. {COL 69.1}

These are some of the most clearest counsel given that reveals the biblical principles of overcoming sin, wether hereditary or cultivated the promise is sure:
To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. {Rev.3:21}
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. {1John 3:9}
Now we are about to look into the two distinct periods that takes place at one colossal event, but as Seventh Day Adventist we are somewhat lost to the order of the issue. But first a beautiful quote by the prophet of the Lord:
God has given us His word that we may become acquainted with its teachings and know for ourselves what He requires of us. When the lawyer came to Jesus with the inquiry, “What shall I do to inherit eternal life?” the Saviour referred him to the Scriptures, saying: “What is written in the law? how readest thou?”………. It is not enough to have good intentions; it is not enough to do what a man thinks is right or what the minister tells him is right. His soul’s salvation is at stake, and he should search the Scriptures for himself. However strong may be his convictions, however confident he may be that the minister knows what is truth, this is not his foundation. He has a chart pointing out every waymark on the heavenward journey, and he ought not to guess at anything. {GC 598.1}
The Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy is compared to a chart and compass, and we need to study, and not to guess, at anything. Let us read carefully this next statement:
I saw that God had children who do not see and keep the Sabbath. They have not rejected the light upon it. And at the commencement of the time of trouble, we were filled with the Holy Ghost as we went forth and proclaimed the Sabbath more fully. This enraged the churches and nominal Adventist, as they could not refute the Sabbath truth. And at this time God’s chosen all saw clearly that we had the truth, and they came out and endured the persecution with us. I saw the sword, famine, pestilence, and great confusion in the land. The wicked thought that we had brought the judgments upon them, and they rose up and took counsel to rid the earth of us, thinking that then the evil would be stayed. {EW 33.2}
We’re going to let the prophet explain the crux of the matter of what she was referring to was a particular TIME!
The commencement of that time of trouble,” here mentioned does not refer to the time when the plagues shall begin to be poured out, but to a short period just before they are poured out, while Christ is in the sanctuary. At that time, while the work of salvation is closing, trouble will be coming on the earth, and the nations will be angry, yet held in check so as not to prevent the work of the third angel. At that time the “latter rain,” or refreshing from the presence of the Lord, will come, to give power to the loud voice of the third angel, and prepare the saints to stand in the period when the seven last plagues shall be poured out.” {EW 85.3}
This quotation deserves our attention for it clarifies that there are important issues that are taking place here.
(1) A short period just before they are poured out (2) While Christ is in the sanctuary (3) The work of salvation is closing (4) The work of the third angel.
(5) The “latter rain,” or refreshing from the presence of the Lord, will come, to give power to the loud voice of the third angel, and prepare the saints to stand in the period when the seven last plagues shall be poured out
From the above points there is a time of trouble before the plagues are poured out, and our Lord has not left the most Holy Place in the Heavenly sanctuary, salvation’s work is not yet finished due to the fact that the third angel message in combination with the latter rain that will give power to the loud cry, being strengthen by the fourth angel of Rev. 18 has not taken place to warn the world!
“And at this time [before they are poured out, the seven last plagues] God’s chosen all saw clearly that we had the truth, and they came out and endured the persecution with us. {EW 33.2} This will take place in what we term the little time of trouble.
The big question, what must commence that will get the final events to be rapid ones?
“It is at the time of the national apostasy, when, acting on the policy of Satan, the rulers of the land will rank themselves on the side of the man of sin–it is then the measure of guilt is full; the national apostasy is the signal for national ruin”. {1888 903.3}
To secure popularity and patronage, legislators will yield to the demand for a Sunday law….By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. . . . {LDE 132.4}
As the approach of the Roman armies was a sign to the disciples of the impending destruction of Jerusalem, so may this apostasy be a sign to us that the limit of God’s forbearance is reached.–5T 451 (1885).
The National Sunday law is the event that marks out the beginning of trouble to the faithful followers of Christ. Another big question, when will our bread and water be sure? We shall have to go to the book of Isaiah, the prophet of the Lord.
“O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble”. {Is.33:2}
“At the noise of the tumult the people fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered”. {33:3}
Isaiah is here giving an overview of the time of trouble as was stated in verse 1. Verse 2 is pivotal in that we can locate when our water and bread will be provided to His children. Let’s look again at verse 2 and break it down. “At the noise of the tumult the people fled; what is a tumult?
TUMULT- 1. The commotion, disturbance or agitation of a multitude, usually accompanied with great noise, uproar and confusion of voices.
2. Violent commotion or agitation with confusion of sounds;
3. Agitation; high excitement; irregular or confused motion;
I wonder what is the cause of the agitation with great noise?
And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and [upon] them which worshipped his image
”. {Rev. 16:1, 2}
These plagues are not universal, or the inhabitants of the earth would be wholly cut off. Yet they will be the most awful scourges that have ever been known to mortals. All the judgments upon men, prior to the close of probation, have been mingled with mercy. The pleading blood of Christ has shielded the sinner from receiving the full measure of his guilt; but in the final judgment, wrath is poured out unmixed with mercy. {GC 628.2}
This “noise of the tumult” points us to the wrath of God. We have clear understanding of this by reading the next portion of Isaiah 33:2; “at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered”. Does this sound familiar? “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book”. {Dan.12:1}
“And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee”. {Num.10:35}
For the LORD shall rise up as [in] mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as [in] the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act”. {Is.28:21}
The nations are now getting angry, but when our High Priest has finished His work in the sanctuary, He will stand up, put on the garments of vengeance, and then the seven last plagues will be poured out. {EW 36.1}
The rabbis had a saying that there is rejoicing in heaven when one who has sinned against God is destroyed; but Jesus taught that to God the work of destruction is a strange work. {COL 190.1}
By terrible things in righteousness He will vindicate the authority of His downtrodden law. The severity of the retribution awaiting the transgressor may be judged by the Lord’s reluctance to execute justice. The nation with which He bears long, and which He will not smite until it has filled up the measure of its iniquity in God’s account, will finally drink the cup of wrath unmixed with mercy. {FLB 338.5}
When will our bread and water be sure?

The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man.
The earth mourneth [and] languisheth: Lebanon is ashamed [and] hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off [their fruits].
Now will I rise, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself. {Is. 33:8-10}
And the people shall be [as] the burnings of lime: [as] thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire. {Is.33:12}
Hear, ye [that are] far off, what I have done; and, ye [that are] near, acknowledge my might. {Is.33:13}

The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? {Is. 33:14}
And the LORD shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of [his] anger, and [with] the flame of a devouring fire, [with] scattering, and tempest, and hilstones. {Is.30:30}

When will our bread and water be sure? ANSWER – The great time of trouble

He shall dwell on high: his place of defence [shall be] the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters [shall be] sure. {Isaiah 33:16}
[When] the poor and needy seek water, and [there is] none, [and] their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. {Is. 41:17}
With the plagues being in action God will protect His people, they are sealed and found refuge in Christ: “Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, [and] from the noisome pestilence”. {Psalm 91:3} Does this language ring a bell? Surely the psalmist is revealing our Lord’s care at that time. The time of trouble.
The time is not far distant when the test will come to every soul. The observance of the false sabbath will be urged upon us. The contest will be between the commandments of God and the commandments of men. Those who have yielded step by step to worldly demands, and conformed to worldly customs, will then yield to the powers that be, rather than subject themselves to derision, insult, threatened imprisonment, and death. At that time the gold will be separated from the dross. . . . Many a star that we have admired for its brilliance will then go out in darkness. Those who have assumed the ornaments of the sanctuary, but are not clothed with Christ’s righteousness, will then appear in the shame of their own nakedness.–Prophets and Kings, p. 188. {ChS 157.2}
There is a prospect before us of a continued struggle at the risk of imprisonment, loss of property, and even of life itself, to defend the law of God, which is made void by the laws of men.–Testimonies, vol. 5, p. 712. {ChS 157.3}

The test, the false Sabbath, or the national Sunday law will be the event that will plunge this world toward the consummation of all things! This event is when the wheat shall be separated from the tares, “This is the test that the people of God must have before they are sealed”. {BC 7 420} The gold will be separated from the dross, and how is our spiritual life? “The storm is coming, relentless in its fury. Are we prepared to meet it? Are we one with Christ as He is one with the Father? Are we heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ? Are we working in copartnership with Christ?--Manuscript 32a, 1896”. {Ev 199.1}

I saw that many were neglecting the preparation so needful and were looking to the time of “refreshing” and the “latter rain” to fit them to stand in the day of the Lord and to live in His sight. Oh, how many I saw in the time of trouble without a shelter! They had neglected the needful preparation; therefore they could not receive the refreshing that all must have to fit them to live in the sight of a holy God.” {EW 71.2}
“The needful preparation”, we are to thank our kind and merciful Father for providing for us solutions from His Holy word! Even that of the parable of the wise and foolish virgins; “All had taken their lamps, the Bible, and by its light had gone forth to meet the Bridegroom. But while “they that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them,” “the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.” The latter class had received the grace of God, the regenerating, enlightening power of the Holy Spirit, which renders His word a lamp to the feet and a light to the path. In the fear of God they had studied the Scriptures to learn the truth, and had earnestly sought for purity of heart and life. These had a personal experience, a faith in God and in His word, which could not be overthrown by disappointment and delay. Others “took their lamps, and took no oil with them.” They had moved from impulse. Their fears had been excited by the solemn message, but they had depended upon the faith of their brethren, satisfied with the flickering light of good emotions, without a thorough understanding of the truth or a genuine work of grace in the heart. These had gone forth to meet the Lord, full of hope in the prospect of immediate reward; but they were not prepared for delay and disappointment. When trials came, their faith failed, and their lights burned dim. {GC 393.4}
Recognize that if we do not comprehend our bread and water will not be provided until the falling of the plagues, we are setting ourselves up for major disappointment and failure! “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,Provideth her meat in the summer, [and] gathereth her food in the harvest”.{Prov.6:6-8}
What is the principle here to be discovered? There’s a work for us to do in the lines of preparation. Now consider this.
Get out of the cities as soon as possible and purchase a little piece of land where you can have a garden, where your children can watch the flowers growing and learn from them lessons of simplicity and purity”.–2SM 356 (1903). {LDE 95.1}
The time has come when, as God opens the way, families should move out of the cities. The children should be taken into the country. The parents should get as suitable a place as their means will allow. Though the dwelling may be small, yet there should be land in connection with it that may be cultivated. {AH 139.4}
Fathers and mothers who possess a piece of land and a comfortable home are kings and queens.–AH 141 (1894). {LDE 96.1}
The cities are to be worked from outposts. Said the messenger of God, “Shall not the cities be warned? Yes; not by God’s people living in them, but by their visiting them, to warn them of what is coming upon the earth.”–Letter 182, 1902. {CL 30.2}
As God’s commandment-keeping people we must leave the cities. As did Enoch, we must work in the cities but not dwell in them.–Ev 77, 78 (1899). {LDE 96.2}
Brothers and Sisters, we have been given tremendous light, we have been in ignorance for to long. It is time to arise and shine for the light has come. It was the Devil’s aim to keep us in darkness. The major point of country living is not, as some may have entertained, to hide, but rather character development!
Take your children away from the sights and sounds of the city, away from the rattle and din of streetcars and teams, and their minds will become more healthy. It will be found easier to bring home to their hearts the truth of the Word of God.–Manuscript 76, 1905. {CL 13.1}
Who will be warned? We say again, Out of the cities. Do not consider it a great deprivation, that you must go into the hills and mountains, but seek for that retirement where you can be alone with God, to learn His will and way. . . . {CL 14.4}
I urge our people to make it their lifework to seek for spirituality. Christ is at the door. This is why I say to our people, Do not consider it a privation when you are called to leave the cities and move out into the country places. Here there await rich blessings for those who will grasp them. By beholding the scenes of nature, the works of the Creator, by studying God’s handiwork, imperceptibly you will be changed into the same image.–Manuscript 85, 1908. {CL 14.5}
“An expensive dwelling, elaborate furnishings, display, luxury, and ease, do not furnish the conditions essential to a happy, useful life. Jesus came to this earth to accomplish the greatest work ever accomplished among men. He came as God’s ambassador, to show us how to live so as to secure life’s best results. What were the conditions chosen by the infinite Father for His Son? A secluded home in the Galilean hills; a household sustained by honest, self-respecting labor; a life of simplicity; daily conflict with difficulty and hardship; self-sacrifice, economy, and patient, gladsome service; the hour of study at His mother’s side, with the open scroll of Scripture; the quiet of dawn or twilight in the green valley; the holy ministries of nature; the study of creation and providence; and the soul’s communion with God,–these were the conditions and opportunities of the early life of Jesus”. {CL 14.6}
“So with the great majority of the best and noblest men of all ages. Read the history of Abraham, Jacob, and Joseph, of Moses, David, and Elisha. Study the lives of men of later times who have most worthily filled positions of trust and responsibility, the men whose influence has been most effective for the world’s uplifting”. {CL 15.1}
How many of these were reared in country homes. They knew little of luxury. They did not spend their youth in amusement. Many were forced to struggle with poverty and hardship. They early learned to work, and their active life in the open air gave vigor and elasticity to all their faculties. Forced to depend upon their own resources, they learned to combat difficulties and to surmount obstacles, and they gained courage and perseverance. They learned the lessons of self-reliance and self-control. Sheltered in a great degree from evil associations, they were satisfied with natural pleasures and wholesome companionships. They were simple in their tastes and temperate in their habits. They were governed by principle, and they grew up pure and strong and true. When called to their lifework, they brought to it physical and mental power, buoyancy of spirit, ability to plan and execute, and steadfastness in resisting evil, that made them a positive power for good in the world”. {CL 15.2}

We must start to get into that country experience, pray earnestly for the Holy Spirit, Study for ourselves, seek to gain the victory over self in Christ Jesus our Lord, be co- laborers with Christ and finish the work!
I see the necessity of making haste to get all things ready for the crisis”.–Letter 90, 1897. {CL 21.1}

God’s Healthcare (The Original Healthcare)

Do you realize how many people are falling sick? Wether it is cancer, stroke, heart attack, diabetes, etc., you hear of someone close to you, a friend, an acquaintance, a family member that has been stricken. These incidents are painful for the victims and love ones. Many times however, we think of sickness as happening per chance, just that persons luck, but what does inspiration say? “Disease never comes without a cause. The way is prepared, and disease invited, by disregard of the laws of health.” {CD 122.1}

It is no coincidence that one of the major items on the US government agenda is health care. This is actually prophetic in nature, as apart of the final end times movement. The Lord has told us through His inspired word:

As religious aggression subverts the liberties of our nation, those who would stand for freedom of conscience will be placed in unfavorable positions. For their own sake, they should, while they have the opportunity, become intelligent in regard to disease, its causes, prevention, and cure. All those who do this will find a field of labor anywhere. There will be suffering ones, plenty of them, who will need help, not only among those of our own faith, but largely among those who know not the truth. The shortness of time demands an energy that has not been aroused among those who claim to believe the present truth.—Counsels on Health, 506. – {CME 11.5}

As we get closer and closer to the end of time diseases of various kinds will increase, this is because of the disregard of the laws of health, combined with the “love of money”, companies selling food and medicinal products with more concern for gain than for our health. Even now we are seeing the increase in disease and illness, it is time for us to follow the Lords instructions completely.

It is not the will of God that we be in poor health, as a matter of fact, the Bible says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” {3 John 1:2) God wants us to be healthy, spiritually as well as physically. Verses 3 and 4 says “For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” God wants us to walk in His truth, He has a health care plan that he wants us to follow. “…If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.” -Exodus 15:26

God has given us eight laws of heatlh, eight principles that if we follow them, we will not only be in good health, will aid in reversing diseases if sickness has already come upon us. “Pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet, the use of water, trust in divine power—these are the true remedies.”– {MH 127.2}

These laws are very simple and inexpensive, but goes a long way in preserving and restoring health.

Pure air

Fresh air will purify the blood, refresh the body, and help to make it strong and healthy. The invigoration produced will be reflected upon the mind, imparting to it tone and clearness, as well as a degree of composure and serenity. It gives a healthful stimulus to the appetite, renders the digestion of food more perfect, and induces sound, sweet sleep. Living in close, ill-ventilated rooms, weakens the system, makes the mind gloomy, the skin sallow, and the circulation feeble; the blood moves sluggishly, digestion is retarded, and the system is rendered peculiarly sensitive to cold. One should so accustom himself to fresh, cool air that he will not be affected by slight changes of temperature. Of course he should be careful not to sit in a draft or in a cold room when weary, or when in a perspiration. – {CTBH 104.2}

Many labor under the mistaken idea that if they have taken cold they must carefully exclude the outside air, and increase the temperature of the room until it is excessively hot. But the system of one suffering with cold is deranged, the pores are closed by waste matter, and there is more or less inflammation of the internal organs, because the blood has been chilled back from the surface, and thrown upon them. At this time, of all others, the lungs should not be deprived of pure air. Judicious exercise would induce the blood to the surface, and thus relieve the internal organs. The power of the will is a great help in resisting cold, and giving energy to the nervous system. To deprive the lungs of air, is like depriving the stomach of food. Air is the food that God has provided for the lungs. Welcome it; cultivate a love for it, as a precious boon of heaven. – {CTBH 104.3}

Sunlight

“And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.” (Genesis 1:6-18)

Without sunlight, every living thing, including the human race, would die. God has placed natural healing powers in the rays of sunlight.

It is not God who has brought upon us the many woes which mortals now inherit. Our own folly has led us to deprive ourselves of things that are precious, of the blessings which, if properly used, are of inestimable value in the maintenance of health. If you would have your home sweet and inviting, make it bright with air and sunshine. Remove your heavy curtains, open the windows, throw back the blinds, and enjoy the rich sunlight, even if it be at the expense of the colors of your carpets. – {CTBH 106.2}

“There are but few who realize that, in order to enjoy health and cheerfulness, they must have an abundance of sunlight, pure air, and physical exercise…. – {DG 175.1}
No room in the house should be considered furnished and adorned without the cheering, enlivening light and sunshine, which are Heaven’s own free gift to man….”—The Health Reformer, April 1, 1871. – {DG 175.2}

As with everything else temperance is important, excessive exposure to sunlight can unhealthy. Morning and afternoon are the best times to be in direct sunlight.

Abstemiousness (Temperance)

“And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.” -1 Corinthians 9:25

Intemperance Causes Most of Life’s IllsIntemperance is at the foundation of the larger share of the ills of life. It annually destroys tens of thousands. We do not speak of intemperance as limited only to the use of intoxicating liquors, but give it a broader meaning, including the hurtful indulgence of any appetite or passion. [1] – {CG 394.1}
Through intemperance some sacrifice one half, and others two thirds of their physical, mental, and moral powers and become playthings for the enemy. [2] – {CG 394.2}
Excessive Indulgence Is SinExcessive indulgence in eating, drinking, sleeping, or seeing is sin. The harmonious healthy action of all the powers of body and mind results in happiness; and the more elevated and refined the powers, the more pure and unalloyed the happiness. [3] – {CG 394.3}
Temperance Is a Principle of the Religious Life—Temperance in all things of this life is to be taught and practiced. Temperance in eating, drinking, sleeping, and dressing is one of the grand principles of the religious life. Truth brought into the sanctuary of the soul will guide in the treatment of the body. Nothing that concerns the health of the human agent is to be regarded with indifference. Our eternal welfare depends upon the use we make during this life of our time, strength, and influence. [4] – {CG 394.4}

Rest

“And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.” -Mark 6:31

Even in the weekly cycle, the Lord has placed a day of rest, he says “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.”(Hebrews 4:9-10) In rest, as in work, there are many health benefits.

It will not do to be always under the strain of the work and excitement, for in this way personal piety is neglected, and the powers of mind and body are injured.“—The Review and Herald, November 7, 1893. – {ChS 249.2}

We should practice temperance in our labor. It is not our duty to place ourselves where we shall be overworked. Some may at times be placed where this is necessary, but it should be the exception, not the rule. We are to practice temperance in all things. If we honor the Lord by acting our part, He will on His part preserve our health. We should have a sensible control of all our organs. By practicing temperance in eating, in drinking, in dressing, in labor, and in all things, we can do for ourselves what no physician can do for us. [13] – {CG 397.1}
As a rule, the labor of the day should not be prolonged into the evening…. I have been shown that those who do this often lose much more than they gain, for their energies are exhausted, and they labor on nervous excitement. They may not realize any immediate injury, but they are surely undermining their constitution. [14] – {CG 397.2}
Those who make great exertions to accomplish just so much work in a given time, and continue to labor when their judgment tells them they should rest, are never gainers. They are living on borrowed capital. They are expending the vital force which they will need at a future time. And when the energy they have so recklessly used is demanded, they fail for want of it. The physical strength is gone, the mental powers fail. They realize that they have met with a loss, but do not know what it is. Their time of need has come, but their physical resources are exhausted. Everyone who violates the laws of health must sometime be a sufferer to a greater or less degree. God has provided us with constitutional force, which will be needed at different periods of our lives. If we recklessly exhaust this force by continual overtaxation, we shall sometime be the losers. [15] – {CG 397.3}

Exercise

“And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. “-Genesis 2:15

Of course God wants us to be involved in useful labor, he wants us to be active. Exercise, useful activity, keeps our body in good working condition. With proper combination of work and rest, this aids in good health.

Many have suffered from severe mental taxation, unrelieved by physical exercise. The result is a deterioration of their powers, and they are inclined to shun responsibilities. What they need is more active labor. This condition is not confined to those whose heads are white with the frost of time; men young in years have fallen into the same state, and have become mentally feeble. – {CTBH 160.3}
Strictly temperate habits, combined with exercise of the muscles as well as of the mind, will preserve both mental and physical vigor, and give power of endurance to those engaged in the ministry, to editors, and to all others whose habits are sedentary. – {CTBH 160.4}

Proper Diet

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19)
“It is important to become familiar with the benefit of dieting in case of sickness. All should understand what to do [for] themselves.”—Manuscript 86, 1897 – {CD 302.1}

Intemperate eating is often the cause of sickness, and what nature most needs is to be relieved of the undue burden that has been placed upon her. In many cases of sickness, the very best remedy is for the patient to fast for a meal or two, that the overworked organs of digestion may have an opportunity to rest. A fruit diet for a few days has often brought great relief to brain workers. Many times a short period of entire abstinence from food, followed by simple, moderate eating, has led to recovery through nature’s own recuperative effort. An abstemious diet for a month or two would convince many sufferers that the path of self-denial is the path to health.—The Ministry of Healing, 235, 1905 – {CD 305.1}

“Whatever injures the health not only lessens physical vigor but tends to weaken the mental and moral powers. Indulgence in any unhealthful practice makes it more difficult for one to discriminate between right and wrong and hence more difficult to resist evil.”—The Ministry of Healing, 128 (1905). – {LDE 81.4}

“In order to know what are the best foods, we must study God’s original plan for man’s diet. He who created man and who understands his needs appointed Adam his food…. Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator.” [7] – {CG 380.1}

The Use Of Water

“Water can be used in many ways to relieve suffering. Drafts of clear, hot water taken before eating (half a quart, more or less), will never do any harm, but will rather be productive of good.”—Letter 35, 1890 – {CD 303.1}

Thousands have died for want of pure water and pure air who might have lived. And thousands of invalids, who are a burden to themselves and others, think that their lives depend upon taking medicines from the doctors. They are continually guarding themselves against the air and avoiding the use of water. These blessings they need in order to become well. If they would become enlightened and let medicine alone, and accustom themselves to outdoor exercise and to air in their houses, summer and winter, and use soft water for drinking and bathing purposes, they would be comparatively well and happy instead of dragging out a miserable existence. – {CH 55.3}

Trust In Divine Power

“And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened;…”(Matthew 9:27-30)

“For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus ‘sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;” (2 Corinthians 4:5-9)

“The physician needs more than human wisdom and power that he may know how to minister to the many perplexing cases of disease of the mind and heart with which he is called to deal. If he is ignorant of the power of divine grace, he cannot help the afflicted one, but will aggravate the difficulty; but if he has a firm hold upon God, he will be able to help the diseased, distracted mind.”—Testimonies for the Church 5:444. – {PH144 19.1}

The customs of the world and the way we have been taught may cause us to lean on our own understanding and not trust in Divine care, but what does the wisest man that ever live say?

My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Proverbs 3:1-8

Conclusion

There are many ways of practicing the healing art; but there is only one way that Heaven approves. God’s remedies are the simple agencies of nature, that will not tax or debilitate the system through their powerful properties. Pure air and water, cleanliness, a proper diet, purity of life, and a firm trust in God, are remedies for the want of which thousands are dying; yet these remedies are going out of date because their skillful use requires work that the people do not appreciate. Fresh air, exercise, pure water, and clean, sweet premises, are within the reach of all, with but little expense; but drugs are expensive, both in the outlay of means, and the effect produced upon the system.—Testimonies for the Church 5:443, 1885 – {CD 302.2}

In regard to that which we can do for ourselves, there is a point that requires careful, thoughtful consideration. – {CD 302.6}

I must become acquainted with myself, I must be a learner always as to how to take care of this building, the body God has given me, that I may preserve it in the very best condition of health. I must eat those things which will be for my very best good physically, and I must take special care to have my clothing such as will conduce to a healthful circulation of the blood. I must not deprive myself of exercise and air. I must get all the sunlight that it is possible for me to obtain. I must have wisdom to be a faithful guardian of my body. – {CD 302.7}
I should do a very unwise thing to enter a cool room when in a perspiration; I should show myself an unwise steward to allow myself to sit in a draft, and thus expose myself so as to take cold. I should be unwise to sit with cold feet and limbs, and thus drive back the blood from the extremities to the brain or internal organs. I should always protect my feet in damp weather. I should eat regularly of the most healthful food which will make the best quality of blood, and I should not work intemperately if it is in my power to avoid doing so. And when I violate the laws God has established in my being, I am to repent and reform, and place myself in the most favorable condition under the doctors God has provided,—pure air, pure water, and the healing, precious sunlight. – {CD 302.8}

liberty of conscience being threatened?

20120229-063335.jpg

Religion has been a hot topic in the 2012 presidential campaign. One religion above the others seems to be mentioned more. Recently a comment by one of the presidential candidates caused a stir,

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum said Sunday that he doesn’t believe in the separation of church and state, adding that he was sickened by John F. Kennedy’s assurances to Baptist ministers 52 years ago that he would not impose his Catholic faith on them.

I don’t believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute,” Santorum, a devout Catholic, said in an interview from Michigan on ABC’s “This Week.”

Yahoo news

Prophecy has already told us that our nation will “repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and Republican government”

When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with Spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and Republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan, and that the end is nearTestimonies for the Church 5:451. – {ChS 160.4}

So are we there? Is that where we are heading, with the topic of the “separation of church and state” taking center stage? Again from prophecy we know that “Rome never changes” and she is waiting for the opportune time.

The papal church will never relinquish her claim to infallibility. All that she has done in her persecution of those who reject her dogmas she holds to be right; and would she not repeat the same acts, should the opportunity be presented? Let the restraints now imposed by secular governments be removed and Rome be reinstated in her former power, and there would speedily be a revival of her tyranny and persecution. – {GC 564.2}

A well-known writer speaks thus of the attitude of the papal hierarchy as regards freedom of conscience, and of the perils which especially threaten the United States from the success of her policy: – {GC 564.3}
“There are many who are disposed to attribute any fear of Roman Catholicism in the United States to bigotry or childishness. Such see nothing in the character and attitude of Romanism that is hostile to our free institutions, or find nothing portentous in its growth. Let us, then, first compare some of the fundamental principles of our government with those of the Catholic Church. – {GC 564.4}
The Constitution of the United States guarantees liberty of conscience. Nothing is dearer or more fundamental. Pope Pius IX, in his Encyclical Letter of August 15, 1854, said: `The absurd and erroneous doctrines or ravings in defense of liberty of conscience are a most pestilential error—a pest, of all others, most to be dreaded in a state.’ The same pope, in his Encyclical Letter of December 8, 1864, anathematized `those who assert the liberty of conscience and of religious worship,’ also ‘all such as maintain that the church may not employ force.’ – {GC 564.5}
The pacific tone of Rome in the United States does not imply a change of heart. She is tolerant where she is helpless. Says Bishop O’Connor: ‘Religious liberty is merely endured until the opposite can be carried into effect without peril to the Catholic world.’… The archbishop of St. Louis once said: ‘Heresy and unbelief are crimes; and in Christian countries, as in Italy and Spain, for instance, where all the people are Catholics, and where the Catholic religion is an essential part of the law of the land, they are punished as other crimes.’… – {GC 565.1}
Every cardinal, archbishop, and bishop in the Catholic Church takes an oath of allegiance to the pope, in which occur the following words: ‘Heretics, schismatics, and rebels to our said lord (the pope), or his aforesaid successors, I will to my utmost persecute and oppose.’”—Josiah Strong, Our Country, ch. 5, pars. 2-4. – {GC 565.2}

We know that it will be the people of the United States that would demand of their government a “Sunday Law”, so this does not mean that the president has to be a Catholic. But wouldn’t it be much easier? As we speak most of the justices on the supreme court are Catholic, and many if not most of congress. It was the Jewish leaders in the days of Christ that urged the common people to reject Christ.

Political corruption is destroying love of justice and regard for truth, and even in free America rulers and legislators, in order to secure public favor, will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance.—The Great Controversy, 578, 579, 592 (1911). – {LDE 129.3}

Is Rome testing the waters, or is she so confident in what she have accomplished in America, that she is boldly telling us her plans?

Look At The Picture The World Presents Today

20120221-213742.jpg

It’s amazing how accurately prophecy describes the condition of the world, please read the following quote from the testimony of Jesus.

Look at the picture which the world presents today. Dishonesty, fraud, and bankruptcies, violence and bloodshed, exist on every hand. The widows and the fatherless are robbed of their all. Plays, horse races, and amusements of every kind occupy the mind. In the church, sins have become fashionable. They are glossed over and excused. The right hand of fellowship is given to the very men who bring in false theories and sentiments. Thus the discernment and sensibilities have become deadened as to what constitutes right principles. Conscience has become insensible to the counsel and reproofs which have been given. The light given, calling to repentance, has been shut out by the thick cloud of unbelief and opposition brought in by human plans and human inventions.
