Satan can keep a hold on us if we do not surrender all to Christ. If there is a sinful desire that we are still holding on to, then we are his. “Satan finds in human hearts some point where he can gain a foothold; some sinful desire is cherished, by means of which his temptations assert their power.” GC 623.1
When the word of God comes to our hearts, does it fall among thorns, where it is choked by that sinful desire?
“And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.” -Luke 8:7
“Sin, however small it may be esteemed, can be indulged in only at the peril of infinite loss. What we do not overcome, will overcome us and work out our destruction.” SC 32.2
This is why the Lord asks us in the book of Proverbs, “My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.” -Proverbs 23:26
Let us give Him our hearts, so that through His Spirit working in us, we may observe His ways, walking in His commandments.
“But Christ declared of Himself: “The prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in Me.” John 14:30. Satan could find nothing in the Son of God that would enable him to gain the victory. He had kept His Father’s commandments, and there was no sin in Him that Satan could use to his advantage. This is the condition in which those must be found who shall stand in the time of trouble.” GC 623.1
If we yield ourselves fully to God, Satan will find nothing in us where he can gain a foothold. We can go on to victory, keeping God’s commandments.
As we near the end of time, it is essential that our faith in the Lord be strong. Even as a mustard seed. Jesus ask in Luke 18:8 “…Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” -Luke 18:8 It will require faith in the word of God to make it in these last days. We will need to have had an experience in His word, knowing that His word is true and would not return unto him void. (See Isaiah 55:11)
From the Spirit of Prophecy, we read:
The word of God is the seed. Every seed has in itself a germinating principle. In it the life of the plant is enfolded. So there is life in God’s word. Christ says, “The words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63. “He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life.” John 5:24. In every command and in every promise of the word of God is the power, the very life of God, by which the command may be fulfilled and the promise realized. He who by faith receives the word is receiving the very life and character of God. COL 38.1
The heavenly intelligences will work with the human agent who seeks with determined faith that perfection of character which will reach out to perfection in action. To everyone engaged in this work Christ says, I am at your right hand to help you. COL 332.2
As the will of man co-operates with the will of God, it becomes omnipotent. Whatever is to be done at His command may be accomplished in His strength. All His biddings are enablings. COL 333.1
Powerful promises, whatever God has asked us to do, Country Living, Victory Over Sin, Trusting Him, etc., we can do it in His strength, remember, “All His biddings are enabling.” And in the book of Philippians He has promised, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13
